Should you Pre-poo your natural hair? If you have been around in the natural hair game for a while, then you have probably come across the term pre-poo. Pre-poo is a pre-shampoo treatment for your hair. I usually like to add my favorite oil and a rinse out conditioner for my pre-poo.
Some amazing combos for pre-pooing are:
- Coconut oil & Castor Oil
- Olive Oil & Honey
- Jojoba oil & Conditioner
You can use any combination, depending on what your hair likes.
Benefits of the Pre-Poo
Helps with MOISTURE
I bet you hear about moisture all the time? In fact, moisture is one of the main issues many curly girls deal with when going natural. A pre-poo treatment will help put moisture back into your hair.
Detangles Hair
Pre-poo treatments are known to help you get those stubborn tangles out of your hair. It will make your detailing session a breeze. Breakage is more prone to dry hair, so when you apply your pre-poo treatment and let it sit for 10-30 minutes, it will help not only detangle but also reduce breakage.
Protects your hair
The shampoo process can be a very rough process on your hair. The pre-poo treatment will help protect your hair from the harsh shampoo process.
Softens Hair
I have noticed that when I do a pre-poo treatment, my hair is left very soft and shiny after my pre-poo. Pre-pooing is perfect for any hair type.
How to do a Pre-Poo Treatment:
- Section hair into four sections, then apply your pre-poo mixture
- Cover your hair with a plastic cap, and let your pre-poo treatment sit for 15-30 minutes
- Rinse your hair, then proceed with your shampoo
- Repeat on wash day if desired
