Thank you, Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Explore Elgin Area for sponsoring our amazing staycation. As always all thoughts and opinions are mine.
My family loves to bike ride. Its something we all became interested in during the pandemic this year. We had a family goal to be healthier and get active and bike riding was one of the activities we started to do more of.
A few weeks ago we got the amazing opportunity to partner with The Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureaus for a really fun family staycation. Our family loves to travel and needed a change of scenery and a getaway in a fun safe way.
The City of Aurora aims to be a bicycle-friendly community and they promote bicycling throughout the city. In downtown Aurora, there is a green dedicated bike lane to help protect riders from traffic and it also connects to major regional trails like the Fox River Bike Trail.
In July 2020, Aurora partnered with Koloni to launch the new Fox Valley Bike Share program. We were so excited to be one of the first to experience this new and exciting program in Aurora. We rode the Fox River Bike Trail to Montgomery which is about 2.5 miles away. While in Montgomery we stopped at Atrevete Confectionsto have a sweet treat in Montogomery Park before heading back to Aurora. The riverside scenery was beautiful and it was truly a great experience.
The Bike Share program is a seamless system, its very easy to navigate. Koloni has an app that you download. Once you get to the bike you scan the bike and pay all within the app. The bike then unlocks and you are good to go! The bike-share program is also connected to other municipalities in Kane County, including Batavia and Elgin. We got the chance to also take a ride in Elgin, IL about 50 minutes from Aurora. I love that Aurora is making it easy for its visitors to navigate through the city and to also encourage economic growth for small businesses, as well as offer residents options for recreation.
Here are the bike locations in Aurora if you are interested in checking it out.
Downtown Aurora currently hosts three bike share locations:
- Aurora City Hall
44 E Downer Place
Aurora, IL 60505 - RiverEdge Park
360 N Broadway
Aurora, IL 60505 - Santori Public Library Aurora
101 S River Street

Thanks to Aurora and Elgin for having us! We enjoyed our staycation.
