During the fall and winter, hot oil treatments should be a part of your healthy hair regimen. Being a woman, we put our hair through a lot, from temperature changes, styling manipulation, and the everyday elements our hair goes through a lot. Hot oil treatments can help to strengthen and prevent brittle hair as well as split ends. They are also good to help stimulate blood flow to help with hair growth.  Here are 5 benefits you can gain from hot oil treatments.

Helps Dry Scalp and Dandruff

I sometimes struggle with dry scalp ad dandruff. Using hot oil treatments before you shampoo your hair can help prevent dandruff. I usually apply the hot oil treatment to my scalp, massage it in and then sit with a plastic cap for 10-15 minutes then rinse.

Help Moisturize Dry Brittle Hair

Pairing your hot oil treatment with heat will help to add moisture back into your hair. The cold weather can really dry out your hair. It’s best to do a hot oil treatment every week or every two weeks. Hot oil treatments help oils to be deposited back into the hair preventing dryness that can contribute to breakage.

Increases Blood Circulation to Your Scalp

Hot oil treatments help to stimulate blood flow to your scalp and in turn helps aid in hair growth.

Helps Prevent Split Ends and Tame Frizz

Hot oil treatments can help to prevent frizz without weighing the hair down. They also help seal the hair which helps to prevent split ends.

Strengthens Hair and adds Shine

After doing hot oil treatments, you will begin to notice that your hair is stronger and healthier. You will also begin to notice that your hair is less dull and has amazing shine!

How to Do a Hot Oil Treatment: To do a hot oil treatment use your favorite oil (jojoba, grapeseed, coconut). Microwave it for 10-20 seconds. Please make sure to test the oil on your hand before putting it in your hair, I have been burned before and trust me you don’t want that LOL! Then apply to your scalp and massage in your hair. Place on a shower cap, and let the oil sit in your hair for about 30 minutes. Then rinse! Your hair will thank you this winter!!

So what are you waiting on? Will you give a hot oil treatment a try?

How would you incorporate a hot oil treatment with a pre-poo? Do you apply both the pre-poo and the hot oil and sit under the steamer? Also, if doing a hot oil treatment, would you also still do a deep conditioner? Thanks!

No, I would do either or. I wouldn’t apply the hot oil or pre-poo with steam. Hot oil treatment is entirely different from a pre-treatment. You get the maximum benefit from a hot oil treatment when the hair and scalp are clean. So you should apply a hot oil treatment right after you shampoo and before you deep condition 🙂 hope this helps!
