It is women’s history month and what greater way to celebrate the accomplishments women in history than to talk about one of my natural hair idols, Tracee Ellis Ross.
I remember watching one of my favorite shows Girlfriends when I was just a teenager and admiring Joan. Her hair was always gorgeous to me even though I had relaxed hair. I wish I would have known back then that I could transition back to my natural hair.
Tracee Ellis Ross is an amazing actress that has so much #Blackgirlmagic. She recently won a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a TV Series, Comedy Or Musical. When receiving her award, Tracee dedicated her award to “all of the women, women of color, colorful people” She said, “I see you, we see you.”
Tracee was inspired by her mother always to follow her dreams. I love that Diana Ross raised her children to follow their dreams.
I’ve actually always felt I was in my mother’s embrace. Part of the way she raised me and all five of her kids is really to follow my heart and my dreams and do the hard work to get there.”- Tracee Ellis Ross
Tracee is such an inspiration to me as a woman who exudes confidence. I wanted to re-create one of her many beautiful hairstyles. I teamed up with T-Roots Beauty to re-create one of Tracee’s beautiful hairstyles.
I used: T-Roots Butter Curls and the 5- in -1 Oil Hair and Scalp Treatment, and flexi rods to create my style.
- Begin with freshly washed hair.
- Detangle and let hair dry some before applying flexi rods
- Use LOC method so seal in moisture with 5-in-1 oil
- Apply a small amount of the T-Roots Butter Curls to your hair
- Wrap hair around rod in a downward motion
- Let completely dry before removing rods
- Separate and fluff
That’s it! It is super simple to create soft, bouncy curls. I love T-Roots because it left my hair super moisturized and shiny. The 5-in 1 oil is amazing! I used it for a pre-poo and also for the LOC method. These products are winners for me. Anytime my hair is left feeling moisturized I know the products have done their job!
Tracee is an iconic and inspirational woman to me because she has always challenged society’s beauty standards. She has always felt that women should not have to do certain things to make ourselves feel beautiful. She feels that we are beautiful naturally. We need to exist unapologetically despite what society says.- Michelle Thames @Naturalista86
